Canton Repository Congressman Bill Johnson to be Youngstown State’s new president

  • U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Marietta, has accepted the position as president of Youngstown State University and will not seek re-election to represent Ohio’s 6th Congressional District. Johnson said in a statement Tuesday that he plans to stay on as congressman for at least a couple of more months.
  • It includes parts or all of 11 counties in eastern Ohio and stretches from Mahoning County down to Washington County. Johnson was first elected to Congress in 2010.
  • Starting with the 2022 election, much of Stark County was added to the 6th District after redistricting.
