Our History

The earliest record of the existence of the Clermont County Democratic Party dates back to 1824 when Andrew Jackson (D) won the popular vote in Clermont County and the nation, lost the Electoral College.

Clermont County has been the birthplace of political leaders in our state and our country including President Ulysses S. Grant (R); the 43rd Governor of Ohio, John M. Pattison (D);  and  the 32nd Lt. Governor of Ohio and first Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, Hugh L. Nichols (D).

From the early 1800’s through the 1960’s Clermont County was known in the political arena as  a bastion of Democrats.  Today, Clermont County, along with Warren and Butler counties,  are the collar counties surrounding Cincinnati, straddling both suburban and rural areas.

The Clermont County Democratic Party takes pride in the election of President Bill Clinton (1992), Barack Obama (2008), and Joe Biden (2020) as well as Sherrod Brown who has served as Ohio Secretary of State, a US Congressman and presently serves as one of our US Senators.
