School Choice: What It Is Not About and What It Is About
School choice is not about:
- Improving education
- Nurturing the symbiosis between the school and its community
- Enhancing the public good
- Bringing citizens of various communities together
School choice is about:
- Financing religious education
- Producing profit on the backs of school children
- Creating conflict in the various communities, the state and the nation
- Segregating citizens along racial, ethnic, economic, social, and religious lines
- Fostering tribalism
- Ultimately requiring parents to pay for the education of their own children (This is the endgame of the Libertarian creators of the voucher concept)
- Undermining the democratic control of the public common school
- Dumbing down education
