MENTAL HEALTH AND RECOVERY BOARD SEEKS NEW MEMBERS

BATAVIA, OH — Clermont County residents who have an interest in assisting with the direction of local addiction and mental health services in the county are invited to contact the Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board (CCMHRB) about a volunteer position on its Board of Directors. There are currently five vacancies on CCMHRB’s Board of Directors. READ MORE

AS OHIO REDISTRICTING BEGINS, CRITICAL ISSUES FOR OHIO VOTERS ARE ON THE LINE

Earlier this week, ODP Chair Elizabeth Walters released the following statement ahead of the first meeting of the redistricting commission on Friday: “Every critical issue facing our state comes down to fair districts – from education to the economy to healthcare to voting rights. For too long, Republicans in charge of the process have allowed politicians to choose their voters rather than the other way around. And because of that, our state is more polarized and divided than ever. The best way to serve Ohio voters and to move our state forward on issues important to working families is by creating fair districts that represent the will of the people. And that’s what Ohio Democrats will be working to do.” READ MORE

REDISTRICTING COMMISSION STARTS WORK UNDER RUSHED TIMELINE

The Ohio Redistricting Commission had their first meeting Friday without much fanfare, and very little on the agenda, despite a squeezed timeline to get their work done. Gov. Mike DeWine called the commission, which oversees the redrawing of legislative and Congressional voting districts, to order and announced the appointment of members and transferred the rest of the business to the commission’s co-chairs, House Speaker Bob Cupp and state Sen. Vernon Sykes, D-Akron. READ MORE

AMID CORRUPTION SCANDAL, ENERGY MONEY CONTINUES TO FLOW TO STATE LAWMAKERS

It’s going to take more than a bribery scandal on a historic scale to get energy money out of Ohio politics. Campaign finance reports, submitted late last week, show the campaign contribution pipeline from the natural gas and utility industries to Ohio lawmakers’ campaign accounts is alive and well. The vast majority went to Republicans, who firmly control the statehouse. READ MORE

LIST OF U.S. CONGRESS INCUMBENTS WHO ARE NOT RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION IN 2022

As of August 2021, 20 members of Congress—five members of the U.S. Senate and fifteen members of the U.S. House—have announced they will not seek re-election. Ten members, five senators and five representatives, have announced their retirement. All five retiring Senate members are Republicans, and of the retiring House members, three are Democrats and two are Republicans. READ MORE

CANDIDATE TRAINING

OHIO DEMOCRATIC PARTY MAIN STREET 2021
August 28, 2021

9 AM TO 4 PM via Zoom

Now that the deadline to file petitions for elected offices on the ballot this November has passed, the Main Street Initiative is conducting a fall training on Saturday, August 28 for local candidates. ODP’s goal is to provide the tools necessary so that over the next few months Democrats can run successful campaigns and win! Attendees can register here. We are here to train Democrats running for municipal, school board, judicial, and other offices this year.

Our partners at the LEAD Ohio PAC will co-host this training on Zoom from 9 AM to 4 PM (with plenty of breaks!). The training will focus on how candidates can maximize the final months before Election Day: mastering stump speeches, tips on fundraising for immediate needs, ramping up communications and digital activity, responding to attacks, GOTV and direct voter contact, and other topics. The session is also appropriate for staff and volunteers helping with races this fall.

Please note: this training is not targeted at those just broadly considering running for office or planning to do so in 2022 or another year. We’ll soon announce other programs for those individuals.

You’ve worked hard to gather supporters to reach your vote goal, and you need to ensure they go vote. We’re here to help! Our GOTV virtual live trainings are a brand new set of trainings to provide you with new tools and resources to help you win.

You will learn the following in this training:

• Identify how to best support campaigns as a local party
• Establish best practices with organizing precincts and recruiting precinct leaders
• Prepare to turnout base voters during GOTV

Amid a COVID-19 surge in Ohio’s most populous county, health officials wanted to once again require the use of face masks indoors to slow the spread of COVID-19.
