Ohio seems to be on the cusp of adopting a universal voucher scheme—joining four other states with the same anti-public education game plan.
Many Ohio politicians are drinking the Kool-Aid of the universal voucher scheme. Substantial EdChoice voucher expansion is in the Governor’s budget proposal (HB33). HB11—the Backpack Bill—would give every private school student or homeschooler a wad of cash from the state treasury. SB11 would make every student eligible for a voucher at an initial cost to the state of $1.1 billion.
The voucher crowd is ecstatic but many public school officials have not counted the cost.
