Senate President’s Answer to Whether or Not to Repeal the Third Grade Guarantee—More Vouchers
The State Board of Education, as required by the law, is considering raising the promotion score on the Third Grade Guarantee. The Ohio House recently voted to repeal the Third Grade Guarantee. A recent issue of Gongwer News Service reports the Senate President as saying, “Open enrollment and school voucher programs may work better than state mandates to address academic deficiencies in Ohio’s schools.” Vouchers seem to be the Senate President’s cure-all for all of the hiccups in public education.
Current leadership in the Ohio Senate will continue the march to universal vouchers. The only possible roadblock is the EdChoice voucher lawsuit.
