Hey Voter,

Have you heard about the upcoming “Special Election” for special interests on August 8th?

You may be thinking, “But Aftab, didn’t we outlaw August elections just last year?” To that I can only offer that hypocritical politics is business as usual for the Ohio Grand Old Party.

Back in January, Ohio Republicans argued that “off-cycle elections aren’t good for taxpayers, election officials or the civic health of our state” and even passed a law banning August elections in Ohio. Despite the cost of 20 million in taxpayer dollars, as soon as DeWine found it politically expedient, he immediately turned around and had an election put on the calendar for this upcoming August…

Now, as August 8th rapidly approaches, my goal is to ensure that you have all the necessary resources to vote “NO” and safeguard our state constitution. Time is of the essence, as TODAY, July 10th, marks the final day to register or update your registration before the August 8th election. To verify your registration status or make any necessary updates, check out this helpful page brimming with voter resources, including the absentee ballot request form and polling location lookup.

Important dates to remember + share with family & friends:

July 11 – County boards of elections begin to send out absentee ballots, and begin early, in-person voting.

Aug. 1 – The deadline for voters to request an absentee ballot. County elections offices must receive the ballot application form by the close of business.

Aug. 8 – Election Day. Voters returning their completed absentee ballots by hand must return them by the time polls close at 7:30 p.m.

Aug. 12 – The deadline for completed absentee ballots to be returned by mail, as long as they are postmarked by Aug. 7.

Above all else, what we truly need is for you to make a plan and cast your “NO” vote to protect and uphold your fundamental rights. If you’re eager to take a more active role, there are lots of opportunities to volunteer!

Virtual Phone Banks – Every Tuesday and Thursday leading up to the election, the Ohio Democratic Party will host virtual phone banks. It’s a fantastic opportunity to get involved from anywhere, with no prior experience required. Click here to sign up and find out more.

Whether you join us at our canvasses or simply have a chat with a friend or coworker, supporters like you are crucial to getting the word out. It is crucial we work together to prevent Issue 1 from passing this August.
