Although 2023 is considered by many to be an off-year election cycle, to us, no year is an off year! There are more than 5,000 local, municipal, and judicial seats across the state that are on the ballot this November.
Most County Board of Elections websites will list all current elected officials for that county and when they are up for reelection. Check with your county Board of Elections to see what’s on the ballot this year. Many of these local and municipal seats go unchallenged and are great pick-up opportunities for progressives!
2023 LEAD Candidate Academy
We’ve welcomed over 50 LEADers into our 2023 Candidate and Judicial Candidate Academies. Most are preparing to run for offices around the state, primarily during the 2023 cycle. We are proud to have representation from 22 Ohio counties in this cohort!
Whether they’re from the big “3 C’s” of Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati or from smaller communities like Ada, Bellefontaine, and Perrysburg, these LEADers are ready to get to work for progressive change.
Across Ohio, progressive candidates will need support! They are doing the hard work training in our Academy. If you or someone you know is ready to help make positive change, please consider joining us and our partners at upcoming trainings!

LEAD Ohio Staff Academy
Applications for our Staff Academy will open in early March. The Academy will begin in May and is perfect for campaign operatives and super volunteers, but we will be accepting a limited number of 2023 candidates as well. Check here for updates!
LEAD Ohio PAC and Ohio Democratic Party Trainings
In partnership with the Ohio Democratic Party, our PAC arm is co-hosting evening webinars about making the decision to run for office and how to get your campaign started as well as day-long regional bootcamps designed to give potential candidates a crash-course in skills they need to run successful campaigns. Women LEADing Ohio “Pow-Her to Run for Office” Sessions
Designed for women-identifying potential candidates, these 90-minute sessions cover the first steps of running for office and are specifically designed for women.
