OUTRAGEOUS EDCHOICE VOUCHER EXPANSION IN THE STATE BUDGET WILL MAKE FINANCIAL PROJECTIONS FOR THE PROGRAM IMPOSSIBLE

EdChoice vouchers are not funded from a separate line item. They are funded from the school district foundation program line items. This arrangement was most likely designed by the Senate voucher zealots. The voucher expansion initiatives in the State budget are so wide and deep that projecting an amount would not have been possible; hence, vouchers were funded from the large pool of school foundation funds traditionally set aside for school districts.

Those legislators who created and expanded the EdChoice voucher program trample underfoot the constitutional provision that requires the State to secure and fund a thorough and efficient system of common schools. Vouchers do not fit the mold of the common school system. Vouchers insult the constitutional common school system.
