The Rhetoric—Fund Students Not The System– Is Conspicuous By Its Outrageous Ignorance.
The universal voucher zealots puppet the expression “fund students, not the system”. They either are showing their ignorance of the Ohio Constitution or their utter contempt for it. Article VI, section 2 requires the state to secure and fund a thorough and efficient system of common schools. Article VI, section 3 requires that: “provision shall be made by law for the organization, administration, and control of the public school system of the state supported by public funds.” These provisions mandate that the state secure, fund, organize, administer, and control the system. The state has established school districts through which education is delivered—not through privately-operated entities. The notion that the state should fund parents and thus, private schools via vouchers or direct funding is absurd.
