How Much Deregulation of Education Can Society Endure?
The public common school system has served American communities in an exemplary manner since the early part of the 19th century. It has perfected a social contract by being supported and regulated by each community and the respective states.
The school privatization movement (charters and vouchers) has diminished the social compact. Privatization has come with massive deregulation. The seeds of tribalism have been sown.
When regulation and accountability are turned over to each individual, the social order withers and chaos would be the norm.
If each person determined how fast to travel on the highway, and if and when to stop, chaos would be the norm. The same is true with education.
Privatizers of education are sowing the seeds of tribalism.
