ODP Event
Friends:
I want to pass along an invitation to an upcoming virtual event that I thought you might take interest in!
The Ohio Democratic Party is hosting a series of virtual “family meetings” across the month of February to connect with Democrats around the state. In these, Party Chair Liz Walters and staff will share analysis of the 2022 election results; share plans for 2023 and 2024; and take input and feedback.
Here are the first five engagements. All events are 6 to 8 PM on Zoom. You do have to click the Mobilize link and formally register and you’ll get the link before the event.
- Tues, Feb 7: Central Ohio Democrats Family Meeting
- Weds, Feb 8: Southwest Ohio Democrats Family Meeting
- Thurs, Feb 9: Northeast Ohio Democrats Family Meeting
- Weds, Feb 15: Northwest Ohio Democrats Family Meeting
- Thurs, Feb 16: Southeast Ohio Democrats Family Meeting
These are open to all Democrats who want to get involved, so feel free to share with anyone you know! These are broken down by region. However, as they are Zoom meetings, you should be able to register for the one the best fits your schedule.
I ask that our Central Committee leadership please share this with all of our Central Committee members and that the clubs share this with their members.
Thank you.

LEAD OHIO
Hello Ray,
Happy New Year! At LEAD, we are kicking off 2023 with our Candidate and Judicial Candidate Academies at the end of this month, and are looking forward to training and developing more progressive leaders across the state. We are also welcoming new team members and are growing as an organization!
On that note, we have a message from Denny Wojtanowski, our Executive Director:
“I am passionate about the work of LEAD Ohio and feel privileged to have been part of our small team over the last four years. I first came to LEAD as a volunteer. Two years later the board asked me to serve as Executive Director. I enthusiastically agreed with the understanding that I would return to retirement in 3 to 5 years. Well, it’s been 4 years and I need to get back on a path to retirement. So, I have recommended to the LEAD Ohio and the LEAD Ohio Foundation boards that they elevate Louise Valentine to the role of Executive Director. I will remain at LEAD as Deputy Director through the end of 2023. After that, I’ll be around if I’m needed.
I want to thank you for your support and encouragement and ask you to give your enthusiastic support to Louise as she and the board implement their vision for the coming years.
Finally, I have to say that making room for the next generation of Leadership isn’t just about getting out of the way. It’s about recognizing the incredible talent that is standing in the wings. I would not be making this move if I didn’t have every confidence that Louise is more than ready.”
We are incredibly grateful to Denny for everything he has done and continues to do for LEAD (as he avoids retirement for another year) and are excited to start this next chapter at LEAD Ohio under the leadership of Louise Valentine who has been serving as Deputy Director since 2019.
Now, we want to take this opportunity to introduce our newest team members:
Erin Czerniak joined us in August 2022 as our new Communications Specialist. She’s been reaching out to alumni – so you may have heard from her already! She’s a three-time graduate of LEAD’s programs: the 2019 Candidate Academy, 2021 Staffer Academy, and the Train the Trainer program. She works remotely from Toledo.
Crystal Lett joined us this month as our new Recruitment Director. Also a graduate of our 2019 Candidate Academy, Crystal ran for the Ohio Senate in the 2020 cycle – losing by only 116 votes and was most recently the Ohio Program Director at Red Wine & Blue in the 2022 campaign cycle.
Many of you may know Eddie Davenport through his work with the LEAD Ohio Foundation’s Buckeye Justice Forum over the last 18 months. We’re now excited to welcome him on board full-time as Project Director of the Buckeye Justice Forum to continue this important work.
Women LEADing Ohio Upcoming Training
Do you know a woman who is thinking about running for office but isn’t sure where to start? Our Women Leading Ohio “Pow-Her to Run for Office” session might be a great fit!
We will cover necessary first steps when considering a run for office and then how to start a campaign after deciding to run.
We invite any women-identifying potential candidates to join us TOMORROW, January 18 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm via Zoom where we will discuss everything from how to search for open offices, to having conversations about running with family, to filing petitions.
Stay Connected
At LEAD, we encourage progressives to run for office at all levels and support candidates and staff with training, resources, and a strong progressive network.
We are actively looking for candidates who are interested in running for local or judicial offices that will be on the 2023 ballot, as well as progressives who are interested in managing or working on campaigns. If you know someone who may be interested, have them reach out to us at info@leadohio.org.
Follow us on Twitter, like us on Facebook, and subscribe to our monthly newsletter to stay up to date with announcements, upcoming trainings, and information about what offices you can run for this year.
Support LEAD Ohio
As an Ohio based non-profit, we rely on donations from generous individuals who share our passion for supporting progressive policies and the candidates who can put them in place. We offer all of our educational training programs at no cost to ensure emerging leaders across the state are able to get the skills and support needed to become successful progressive champions in elected office or grassroots advocacy.
