According to the Ohio Office of Management and Budget, there is about $536 million in unencumbered state budget revenue left over after fiscal year 2026. Honesty for Ohio Education suggests that since the state appropriated $2.75 billion for FY 26 and FY 27 than what the Fair School Funding Plan required, the least state lawmakers could do is direct this leftover money to public schools. The children who lost the most due to the budget shortfall were kids in poverty, kids with disabilities, and English learners.
