You are invited to join a newly forming Legislative Action Team (LAT). The LAT will be a group of activists poised to quickly contact our representatives or governor (by email, phone call, etc.) on a single, specific issue. While it would be amazing if all Clermont democrats would regularly reach out to their representatives to voice concerns on every issue, we know that’s not realistic, both because our lives are busy and the number of issues requiring attention are too numerous.
This is not the time to passively watch our representatives attack schools, health and democracy itself. Our current representatives seem to care only about keeping their jobs; they bow to Trump, fearing his wrath. But we can put our thumb on that fear scale and push back. The LAT is one way to let our politicians know that there are irritated, engaged, and motivated people who are watching and who will spend time and effort to expose their voting record and defeat them in the next election. They may fear the top-down wrath, but they need to start considering the bottom-up wrath.
As a part of the LAT, when a significant issue arises, an email message will come to you with a short background, and say “If you agree with this, contact these individuals NOW (ideally, within 24 hours).” You would then be someone we can count on to do this outreach.
At least in the beginning, the LAT will have a moderator who will oversee the email list and discourage off-topic postings like rants or sign-ups for protests (not our mission). Any member of LAT can send out an action request, but initially at least this request will go to the moderator for approval. If you would like to be a part of this LAT, complete this brief form.
