Much attention is being given to the extremely unpopular “One Big Beautiful Budget Bill” that Trump and his foot soldiers are pushing. But Ohio’s pending budget is just as concerning — if not more. Ohio’s state budget process determines where our tax dollars go. It shows us Ohio’s priorities. The state budget bill has passed the Ohio House. It is currently in the Ohio Senate. It can fund programs that save and improve lives — or it can fund tax cuts for billionaires at the expense of everyone else.

If everyone in Ohio knew exactly how state politicians are trying to spend their tax dollars, could we make an impact? There is still time to try to improve this budget bill. Pick your top two or three budget concerns and contact your state senator. And then ask your friends to do the same.

Click here for a detailed list created by Ohioans Against Extremism that identifies items to add and items to remove from the budget bill in its current form. Here are a few highlights:

  • Fully implement the bipartisan Fair School Funding Plan
  • Remove massive tax cut for the wealthy that phases down state income tax to a flat rate of 2.75%
  • Remove trigger language that could end Medicaid expansion in Ohio
  • Remove language legalizing the HB6 corruption that left two people dead and our former House Speaker in prison for life. See this article for more details.
