No Ohio veteran, servicemember, or their family should be kicked out of their home when they are trying to get back on track with mortgage payments.
During the pandemic, the VA offered a temporary pause on mortgage payments through a process called forbearance.
Now, there aren’t enough options to catch up on payments. Thousands are at risk of foreclosure.
As Chair of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, I work each day to make homeownership more affordable for everyone, especially our veterans and servicemembers.
That’s why I introduced the Veterans Housing Stability Act. Our solution would work like this:
- Veterans and servicemembers can place missed payments at the end of their loan, interest-free.
- When they move or refinance, they can pay them back without any changes to their monthly mortgage payments.
The VA and other federally-backed mortgage programs have successfully implemented this solution in the past. We must bring it back.
We must keep our promises to veterans. They have risked their lives and sacrificed time with their families.
Veterans and servicemembers deserve to be able to stay in their homes while getting back on track with mortgage payments. |
