Ohio’s universal voucher scheme is welfare for the wealthy.

In the mid 1990’s, certain Ohio politicians touted vouchers as a lifeboat rescuing students from the troubled Cleveland School District. In 2024, Ohio’s universal voucher system is a yacht, in some cases, an additional yacht for the wealthy.

Since voucher funds are taken from the state budget line-item that funds basic services in school districts, vouchers have a disequalizing effect, harming the poor.

In the 1990s, voucher promoters sold the voucher scheme by claiming poor kids would have the same opportunity as affluent kids to get quality educational opportunities. These voucher zealots were either disingenuous or unenlightened. Where is the outrage to this voucher scam?
