Saving Cincinnati Workers’ Pensions
|
In June, we saved the pensions of nearly 500 members of the Cincinnati Roofers Local 42, because of the passage of my Butch Lewis Act. Their pension plan will now be able to pay out the full benefits retirees earned and restore previous cuts to these Ohioans’ pensions. Through no fault of their own, participants of the Roofers Local 42 plan had faced pension cuts of as much as 35 percent. |
Introducing Ohio Students to Manufacturing Careers
|
I visited seventh, eighth, and ninth grade students at a Montgomery County Summer Building Trades Camp my office helped organize. The camp – one of our annual Summer Manufacturing Camps – gave local students the chance to explore building trades careers in their communities and learn from experts. Students learned how manufacturing facilities are built, participated in team-building exercises, and got a chance to try out the trades for themselves. Our office started organizing summer manufacturing camps in 2013, and since then, has organized more than 160 camps throughout the state. |

Keeping Ohio Communities Safe

Stopping the Deadly Flow of Fentanyl into Ohio Communities
|
I met with local leaders and law enforcement in Cincinnati to discuss my bipartisan Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act. This sanctions and anti-money laundering bill aims to stop the flow of deadly fentanyl into Ohio communities and save lives in Ohio by targeting the illicit fentanyl supply chain, from the chemical suppliers in China to the cartels that transport the drugs in Mexico. The bill passed the Senate at the end of July. |

Protecting Ohio Patients & Nurses
|
I met with local nurses and advocates in Dayton to call for passage of our Nurse Staffing Standards for Hospital Patient Safety and Quality Care Act, to create a national minimum nurse-to-patient ratio to ensure Ohio patients get the personalized care they need and nurses have support on the job. |

Building Southwest Ohio Infrastructure & Transportation

Bringing High-Speed Internet to Rural Ohio
|
In June, I announced a massive investment to expand high-speed internet access to 183,000 Ohio households – the largest ever expansion of internet access in our state. And it’s all possible because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. |
Working to Prevent Another Rail Disaster
|
I’ve been fighting to pass my Railway Safety Act of 2023 that I introduced with Senator Vance to improve rail safety protocols—and finally stand up to railroad company lobbyists. We advanced the bill out of committee with bipartisan support, and will continue pushing to pass it into law.
After the Norfolk Southern derailment in Springfield, I met with local business owners, rail union workers, and local officials at the derailment site to call for swift passage of the Railway Safety Act so that no other community has to deal with what Ohioans in East Palestine have dealt with.
Since the hazardous derailment in East Palestine, I’ve repeatedly visited the community to meet with Ohioans and respond to their needs. I’ve heard from farmers, health workers, manufacturers and community members and I’ll keep working to secure resources for Ohio communities and to hold Norfolk Southern accountable for cleaning up the damage caused by their corporate greed. |

Supporting Ohio Veterans Exposed to Toxins Through the PACT Act
|
In Hamilton, Greene and Fayette Counties, I hosted roundtables with veterans and advocates to discuss the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act of 2022 that we successfully passed into law last summer, after years of effort and advocacy led by Ohio veterans and their families.
The law is the most comprehensive expansion of benefits for veterans who faced toxic exposure in our country’s history. Right now, veterans who were exposed to toxins while serving and their family members should go to va.gov/pact to find out more about how they can claim the benefits they’ve earned. |

Securing Funding for Ohio Firefighters
|
In April, the Senate passed our bill to support local fire departments. The bill would ensure that programs used by local fire departments to address staffing needs, purchase equipment, develop fire training and education programs, and improve emergency medical services. |

Fighting to Bring Space Force to Ohio
|
I led a group of Ohio Representatives in calling on the Biden administration to choose Ohio’s Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton as the headquarters for the U.S. Space Command and to locate additional U.S. Space Force units in Ohio in partnership with the NASA John H. Glenn Research Center’s Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Sandusky. Ten leading Ohio economic development organizations and the Ohio Mayors Alliance joined me in this effort.
While the administration made the wrong decision not to choose Ohio for Space Command, our push made clear that Ohio is a global leader in aerospace technology. I’ll keep fighting to bring additional Space Force units and national security jobs to Ohio. |
“From the Wright brothers to American heroes like John Glenn and Neil Armstrong, the story of modern aviation is rooted in Ohio – and Ohio is ready to meet the challenges of the future.” |
