Raymond,

The Ohio Scoop is your weekly political fix, filled with the most up-to-date information about Ohio Democrats and everything happening on the campaign trail here in Ohio. We’re here so you can get your political scoop, all in one place.

If you’re new to the list, welcome. You were added because you are one of Ohio Democrats’ best supporters. For those of you who are returning, welcome back.

This week, we have a special Cherry on Top edition of The Ohio Scoop with a note from our Chairwoman, Liz Walters. Let’s jump right in.

The Cherry on Top
Friends –

Thank you for being a part of the Ohio Dems family! Today is the second of what will be regular notes from me, to you, about our work in Ohio. I am hoping an occasional note from me in “The Scoop” will be the cherry on top of your Friday reading. (See what I did there? )

GOTV weekend is upon us, as we head into the final four days before the August Special Election! This Tuesday, August 8th, Ohioans will head to the polls and decide on a Constitutional Amendment that, if it passes, would effectively end the citizen-led ballot initiative and radically diminish the voice of the people. If you haven’t been following what’s been happening in Ohio, you can learn more about State Issue 1 here.

As we started this year, we couldn’t have imagined that corrupt Ohio Republicans would stoop this low to try to degrade our democracy with such cynicism and hypocrisy. But Ohio Republicans also couldn’t have imagined how we would respond. Over the last 90 days, Ohio Democrats have organized, submitted signatures, knocked doors, made calls, and are showing up to vote in record numbers. Our volunteers, county party leaders, elected officials, and supporters are a united front, working together to win this fight. From Mayors to State Representatives to our County Party Chairs and Congressional Delegation – everyone is mobilizing volunteers and knocking doors!

We are proud to be part of a big, bipartisan, diverse coalition of organizations voting NO on Issue 1. Working with our brothers and sisters in Labor, our partners in the progressive movement, and quite a few Republicans (like former Governor’s Kasich and Taft), we have spent our summer making sure Ohio voters know what’s at stake in this election. CorruptExtremist Republicans like Frank LaRose have said the quiet part out loud: this is 100% about keeping the abortion rights ballot initiative from succeeding. And we know that if we don’t stop Issue 1 now, they’ll come for worker rights, voting rights, and civil rights, next.

To all those who have supported our work with your time and treasure: thank you. If you haven’t gotten involved, you can learn more about how you can join us in the fight in this week’s scoop and help us tell out-of-touch politicians at the statehouse: we won’t go back.

Yours in the fight,
Liz Walters

What Time Is It?!
It’s everyone’s favorite time – time to Get Out The Vote!

We have four days until the August 8th election, and every day is crucial.

Ohio Democrats across the state are knocking doors and encouraging folks to vote NO on Issue One on or before August 8th. And our friends have come out in droves and made over 600k phone calls to voters!

Join in on the fun and come out and talk to voters with us! You can find your closest canvass or a phone bank here.

THANK YOU for your help in bringing this home!

Frank LaRose Messy Hour
You all know the old adage, another day, another mistake from Ohio’s chief elections official Frank LaRose!

It turns out that being the Secretary of State for five years isn’t enough experience for LaRose to run an August special election. Maybe he’s been too busy running for a new job to do the job he currently has.

This week, LaRose sent out a statewide email to poll workers reminding them about the election. The problem? He sent the wrong date.

Why would Ohioans give Frank a new job when he can’t even handle the one he has now.

It would be one thing if we knew Frank was doing his best, but instead, he is too busy closely tying himself to the campaign in support of Issue 1, raising money for his Senate campaign in DC, and facing even more ethics violations.

We’re so tired of this, Frank. And we can’t wait to see his Issue go down in flames on Tuesday.

Flavor of the Week
What’s the best way to cool off after a hot canvassing shift during GOTV weekend?! With a scoop of ice cream, of course!

And this weekend, you can raise your cone and celebrate Governor Ted Strickland. Today is his birthday, and Governor Strickland never turns down a scoop when offered! See photographic evidence below:

The governor is partial to a serving of peach in the summer and some Jeni’s Salty Caramel the rest of the year. Join us in enjoying a scoop of ice cream this weekend to celebrate Ohio’s 68th Governor!

Until Next Time

Ohio Democrats are working hard gearing up to re-elect Senator Sherrod Brown in 2024. Please consider contributing as much as you can to help Ohio Democrats turn out as many of our voters as we can to vote NO on Issue 1 in August.

If you’re unsure about how much more you can contribute, simply reply to this email. We’d be happy to help.

As always, thank you for standing with us. I am immensely grateful for your partnership.

Onward,

Emily Feltz
