The Clermont County Democratic Party held it’s biennial reorganization meeting on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at noon via Zoom. Ohio Democratic Party Secretary Bill DeMora presided. Congratulations to the new duly elected leadership.

MEET NAN WHALEY, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR OHIO GOVERNOR
Nan grew up in a small town in Indiana. She learned the values of hard work, strength, and resilience from her dad, a union autoworker who lost his job but never lost his dignity, and her mom, who went to work at the laundromat behind their house to help make ends meet.
Back then, Ohio was where people went for opportunity, so she attended the University of Dayton, becoming the first person in her family to graduate from college. She met her husband, Sam, and fell in love with her adopted hometown, eventually running for City Commission and mayor. Read More

Ohio Democratic Party Statement on DeWine Signing Dangerous Bill that Puts Ohio Students, Law Enforcement at Risk
For Immediate Release:
Monday, June 13, 2022 Columbus, OH — Today, the Ohio Democratic Party released the following statement after Mike DeWine once again caved to the gun lobby and extremists in the legislature and signed dangerous legislation that would create more armed teachers in the classroom. The bill was opposed by Ohio teachers and law enforcement officers, but DeWine has received more gun lobby money than any other in-state politician, so of course, he signed it into law anyway. DeWine’s signature of this bill is just the latest way he’s broken his promise to “do something” following the mass shooting in Dayton in 2019. READ MORE

CAMPAIGN WATCHDOGS SUE VANCE CAMPAIGN, SUPER PAC ALLEGED COVERT WEBSITE SCHEME
The Campaign Legal Center and End Citizens United are suing J.D. Vance’s campaign committee and the super PAC Protecting Ohio Values for alleged illegal in-kind contributions during this year’s U.S. Senate primary election. The lawsuit, filed earlier this week, was first reported by The Daily Beast. It points to a covert website, uncovered by Politico last month, where the super PAC posted numerous campaign research, polling and strategy documents. READ MORE
ADVOCATES, SURVIVORS APPLAUD ‘NEW BEGINNING’ WITH SENATE’S GUN DEAL — BUT WANT MORE
Gun safety advocates and organizations on Sunday quickly applauded the anti-gun violence framework announced by a bipartisan group of senators — but some called for further action.
The agreement, if passed into law, includes provisions that would increase investments in mental health services and fund school safety resources as well as expand the federal background check system. It would also incentivize creating “red flag” laws to prevent people who are a danger to themselves or others from having firearms. READ MORE
AFL-CIO ELECTS LIZ SHULER NEW LEADER, FIRST WOMAN TO HOLD POSITION
The AFL-CIO elected Liz Shuler as its president, making her the first woman to hold the labor organization’s top spot. Ms. Shuler acknowledged that the group of 57 unions and 12.5 million members has a lot of work to reinvigorate the national labor movement. “This is more than a comeback story,” Ms. Shuler said in a statement. “This is a new story, yet to be told.” READ MORE

COVID19 IN OHIO
OHIO CHANGES COURSE ON COVID-19 CASES
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The Ohio Department of Health on Thursday reported 18,247 new COVID-19 cases for the past week, putting the virus back on the rise in the state. Ohio’s COVID-19 cases showed signs of slowing last week as it marked little more than 17,000 new cases, and ended an eight-week streak of consistent rises in new cases. The week prior had the state report 19,546 cases. Over the past seven days, the state averaged about 2,607 new coronavirus cases, the highest rate since Feb. 22. This week begins a new trend where cases are going back up, showing a 4% increase with 717 more than last week. READ MORE

CLERMONT COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CLUB UPDATES
DIA is hosting their Annual Summer Solstices Soiree on June 17 at 6:00 PM. at Miami Riverview Park, 587 Branch Hill Loveland Rd., Loveland,OH 45140. Come enjoy the magic that happens when we are together. It is so nice to meet one another and for many of us, this will be the first time without masks. Bring your family as there is a playground next to the pavilion. Speakers will be congressional candidates, Greg Landsman and Samantha Meadows. We will also have a few members running for Ohio House seats as well. The picnic is free and potluck, so please bring a dish to share and BYOB. DIA will provide water, paper plates, utensils and charcoal. They will also have Pride Flags available.

Come meet your fellow Democrats in Clermont County. The Quin-T Democrat Club will be meeting again at the CCDP headquarters in Batavia. We will have an half hour social time between 6:30pm and 7:00pm. Feel free to bring something to eat and drink. Grammas Pizza is right next door to headquarter. At 7:00pm there will be a formal meeting with a short agenda. The remaining time will be used for an open forum. Information about the upcoming August 2 primary and candidates running in the mid-term election on November 8, 2022 will also be provided.
WEST CLERMONT DEMOCRATS UPDATED MEETING LOCATION
The West Clermont Democrats will meet at the Day Heights Fireman’s Memorial Building, 1313 OH-131, Day Heights, OH 45150 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm for the next three months. The next meeting will be held on Monday, July 11, 2022. Come meet your fellow Democrats in Clermont County and get updated on news from the Ohio Statehouse. There will also be information on opportunities to support Democratic candidates.
