ODP Statement On Failed U.S. Senate Vote On Women’s Health Protection Act
Columbus, OH — Following the U.S. Senate’s failure to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act, Ohio Democratic Party Chair Elizabeth Walters released the following statement:
“Today’s vote is a reminder that the basic rights of all Ohioans to reproductive healthcare – including abortion and birth control – are at stake in this year’s election. Ohio Republicans, from J.D. Vance to Mike DeWine to extremists in the Statehouse, are on a relentless campaign to strip women of their fundamental rights and enact new, cruel restrictions that would punish women, including survivors of rape and incest. EXPERTS: WHALEY MIGHT ACTUALLY HAVE A SHOT IN NOVEMBER
Anybody who’s been around Ohio politics for a minute knows this: It’s not the best use of your money to bet it against Mike DeWine. Since 1976, he’s been winning elections in the Buckeye State — first as Greene County Prosecutor, then in 1980 to the state Senate, then in 1982 to the U.S. House of Representatives, in 1990 to lieutenant governor, in 1994 to the U.S. Senate, in 2010 to Ohio attorney general and in 2018 to governor. J.D. VANCE CALLS TIM RYAN A “TRUMP DEMOCRAT.” RYAN’S RESPONSE? ‘FINE. WHATEVER.’
People often try, but putting a label on Tim Ryan, the Democratic candidate for Ohio’s open U.S. Senate seat, is a nearly impossible task. He’s been called a moderate, a centrist, a conservative Democrat, a rebel within his own party, a radical leftist, a sycophant for the Biden legislative agenda, and probably a few names he’s been called by Republicans that we can’t repeat here. ABORTION RIGHTS PROTEST AT THE OHIO STATEHOUSE
Supporters of legal abortion rallied in Columbus, outside the Ohio Statehouse, Saturday — joining advocates that gathered in other cities all around the state and country. The west lawn of the Ohio Statehouse was full of women, and some men, who carried signs with messages blasting abortion bans and yelled chants like “abortion rights are human rights.” READ MORE

Democrats 101: A Primer for Us by J.M. Purvis, Mark Melnick
What is a Democrat? Why is it so hard to define, and why do we keep letting the Republicans do it? Why do we squabble when we should be united? Why do we drift endlessly into policy disputes when bigger things are at stake?
We have core values. We have basic truths that each and every one of us believe in, regardless of who we are. We have universal truths that are American to their core, values that have their roots in the Declaration of Independence, values that appeal beyond our party. We’ve waffled around long enough. We need to proclaim these values. Now. Publicly. Before it’s too late. READ MORE
COVID19 IN OHIO
THIS IS HOW MANY LIVES COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED WITH COVID VACCINATIONS IN EACH STATE
One tragic fact about the nearly 1 million people who died of COVID-19 in the U.S. is that a huge share of them didn’t have to. In Tennessee, 11,047 of the people who died could have survived if everyone in the state had gotten vaccinated. In Ohio, that number is 15,875. Nationally it’s nearly 319,000, according a new estimate. READ MORE
