CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CINCINNATI BENGALS!
The Cincinnati Bengals are going to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1989 after beating the Kansas City Chiefs 34-31 in overtime on January 2nd.
Beating KC Was a Bengals Win for the Ages
There have been plenty of other memorable contests at PBS over the years—most of them losses—but the combination of the game’s importance, excitement, and crazy ending, plus the optimistic sense it provided of a limitless future for Bengals fans, pushed this one right to the top. Given where we were just a few weeks ago, never mind before the season, that’s an amazing development. READ MORE
MEET ALAN DARNOWSKY, DEMOCRAT FOR U.S. CONGRESS IN OHIO’S SECOND CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT
He will be running against Brad Wenstrup and will need all hands on deck for support.
Darnowsky was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He earned an undergraduate degree with a BA in Math and Computer Science from Yale University in June 1973. His forty year professional career includes working as vice president at Citibank, owning his own software firm that developed packages for payment and check processing for 17 years, and working as an IT professional for Unisys, Barnett Bank, Intrieve, and other companies. Darnowsky has served as a member of the League of Women Voters and local Democratic clubs
Darnowsky recalls how he went from treating politics as a spectator sport to becoming a candidate. “Until 2016 I treated politics as a spectator sport. That changed with the advent of Trump. I started donating and in 2018 I started volunteering on campaigns including Beto O’Rourke’s Senate and Presidential runs. In late 2019 at the meeting where I filed my paperwork to become precinct captain, the Clermont County chairman asked for volunteers to run for office.
“I thought about it for a few days and decided to run for State Representative in the old 65th HD. I ran as good a campaign as I could with virtually no money and no experience. I lost but I learned a lot. I was going to let younger candidates run this year to gain experience and name recognition. Nobody stepped up. Since Clermont County is the filing county of the Second Congressional District, I figured I was the logical person to run. I am hiring professionals to help me and hope that I can do better in fundraising.”
As Alan gets his campaign set up we will share links for donations and volunteers.

BIDEN BOOM HITS NEW HEIGHTS, AS PRESS BURIES THE GOOD NEWS
When the Commerce Department on Thursday announced that the economy just grew at the fastest rate in nearly 40 years, posting robust growth numbers not seen since the Reagan era, none of the network newscasts treated the announcement as a big deal. In fact, two of the three newscasts, “ABC World News Tonight” and “CBS Evening News” didn’t even cover the story on Thursday — “NBC Nightly News” gave it one sentence. READ MORE
OHIO SUPREME COURT INVALIDATES LEGISLATIVE MAPS FOR SECOND TIME
The Ohio Supreme Court has sent back the state’s legislative redistricting maps yet again, rebuffing GOP claims that they attempted to bring about a partisan balance.
“The (Ohio Redistricting Commission’s) choice to avoid a more proportional plan for no explicable reason points unavoidably toward an intent to favor the Republican Party,” the majority wrote in a Monday ruling. READ MORE

BIPARTISAN COALITION DISCUSS ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE 2022 POLITICAL CYCLE, TRACKING ELECTION DENIERS
For the last year, election officials at every level of government nationwide have felt like it’s “Groundhog Day,” with some people still fixated on the 2020 election and bringing it into current political campaigns.
But with the 2022 political cycle underway, a bipartisan coalition of current and former state and local leaders from across the United States think there’s an opportunity to move on from conspiracy theories and baseless voter fraud claims surrounding the 2020 election by combating misinformation and holding election deniers accountable. WORD FROM THE CHAIR – RAYMOND LEMBKELast Wednesday, February 2, was the deadline to file to get your name on the May 3 primary ballot. The good news is that we had 74 people file to run for our Central Committee in 71 precincts. This is the largest number of people to file for our Central Committee in some years. Since most of those filers are running unopposed, they need to remember to vote for themselves in the May primary. READ MORE

South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation by Imani Perry
We all think we know the South. Even those who have never lived there can rattle off a list of signifiers: the Civil War, Gone with the Wind, the Ku Klux Klan, plantations, football, Jim Crow, slavery. But the idiosyncrasies, dispositions, and habits of the region are stranger and more complex than much of the country tends to acknowledge. In South to America, Imani Perry shows that the meaning of American is inextricably linked with the South, and that our understanding of its history and culture is the key to understanding the nation as a whole.
