NOTICE OF CLERMONT COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY

2020 REORGANIZATION MEETING

Pursuant to Ohio Revised Code § 3517.04, notice is hereby given that the Clermont County Democratic Party will hold its biennial reorganization meeting commencing at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. In accordance with the orders of the Governor of Ohio prohibiting large gatherings during the current Covid-19 pandemic and to protect the health and safety of all participants and observers, the reorganization meeting will be conducted virtually utilizing a Zoom virtual meeting platform. Persons elected to the Central Committee of the Clermont County Democratic Party at the 2020 primary election should contact Raymond W. Lembke by e-mail at rlembke@fuse.net or by telephone at (513) 236-5426 or (513) 621-9603 to receive instructions on obtaining the login and password that will permit them to participate and vote in the reorganization meeting. Persons who are not elected Central Committee members may not participate or vote but may observe the meeting at facebook.com/ClermontCountyDemocraticParty

URGENT Message from the Clermont County Democratic Party Treasurer

As we all know, it takes money to keep the Clermont County Democratic Party in operation. By this time we should have heavily solicited funds for our 2020 Donkey Club Membership, received a few donations at our St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast, held our Annual Golden Donkey Dinner in April (which is our major fundraiser) along with getting ready for our Wine Down Thursday at Harmony Hill in June. Due to Covid-19 these crucial fundraising events had to be canceled or postponed so our funds have been greatly depleted.

We still need to maintain our headquarters on Main Street in Batavia. We have funds to carry us through July. Our basic monthly expenses (rent and utilities) run approximately $630 per month. We will have no money to promote our Candidates or maintain our Headquarters after July. It’s going to require all of us to step forward to make a major commitment to our Party.

You can do this by JOINING OUR DONKEY CLUB. Ask your family and friends to join the Donkey Club! You can donate online through our ActBlue Donkey Club Membership below. All you have to do is “click” on the Donate button to make a donation. If you would prefer to send a check to the Clermont County Democratic Party please make your check out to CCDP and mail to P.O. Box 475, Batavia, Ohio 45103.

If you look at the Primary Election results you will see that we have many new people who have the desire to get involved in the Clermont County Democratic Party, but again, it takes funds for us to move forward. If you can only afford $20 or $50 then you have done your part; if you can donate $100, $250 or $500 or a larger amount that will help us tremendously!

From David Pepper, Chair, Ohio Democratic Party Regarding Delegates to the DNC National Convention

The coronavirus pandemic is continuing to impact all of us. We don’t know when our lives will go back to normal, so we make contingencies and move forward as best we can.

The Democratic Party is making those same sorts of plans in preparation for our convention in Milwaukee this August. At this time, we don’t know what the convention will look like, but the planners are looking at all options.

This week the Democratic National Committee took action to ensure the convention is safe and guarantee that we can accomplish all official business without putting our delegates’ health at risk. The DNC is working to ensure all delegates will be able to cast ballots and fulfill their duties, regardless of their ability to travel and participate in person.

With that in mind, I want to make sure that each of you has the opportunity to apply to be a part of the 2020 Democratic National Convention. When I became chair, I pledged that we would be open and transparent, and this email is part of that commitment.

Earlier this year, more than 3,000 Ohio Democrats filed to run for 89 district-level delegate positions, and the final allocations of those delegates will be announced soon, once the final canvass of Ohio’s primary election is complete. In addition to the district-level delegates, Ohio will have 18 pledged “PLEO” (party leaders and elected officials) delegates and 29 at-large delegates at the statewide level. Whatever format the convention ultimately takes, delegates will still have an important role to play in this historic election.

The deadline to apply to serve as a statewide delegate — either PLEO or at-large — is Friday, May 29, at 4 p.m. Click here to apply now.

One final note about convention delegates — because of an agreement between the Biden and Sanders campaign, Ohio will have statewide delegates representing both campaigns. This also means you should indicate which candidate you support when you fill out your application.

OHIO EMPLOYERS SHARE THE WORK AND SAVE JOBS

A growing number of Ohio employers have discovered a tool to scale back operations while avoiding layoffs: Worksharing. Ohio’s shared work program allows employers to reduce employee hours by up to half. Workers then receive unemployment compensation proportionate to the hours they don’t work. Employees keep their jobs and benefits, employers avoid hiring and training new workers when demand recovers. READ MORE.

LOCAL REACTION TO DEWINE’S GO-AHEAD TO REOPEN RESTAURANTS, BARS AND PERSONAL CARE SERVICES

On May 7, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced that restaurants, bars and personal care services – hair salons, barbershops, day spas, nail salons and tanning facilities – would be permitted to reopen, beginning May 15. The announcement is part of DeWine’s continuing Responsible RestartOhio plan to reopen businesses amid the COVID-19 pandemic. READ MORE.

INNOVATION HELPS COUNTY OVERCOME SHORTAGES

Faced with shortages of hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial disinfectant wipes and sprays, Clermont County went ahead and made its own products.

Director of Facilities Management Wade Grabowski and Chris Turner, facilities coordinator, tapped local sources for ingredients, looked up mixtures on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website, and conferred with a chemist at Clermont County Water Resources. READ MORE.

WORD FROM THE CHAIR – RAYMOND LEMBKE

Approximately 27% of Clermont’s registered voters voted in the 2020 primary. Given how the corona virus interfered with the election, that could be considered good turnout. However, it is down from 2016, when approximately 40% of the County’s registered voters voted in the primary. I am not sure whether this says anything about the November election. When Ohio voted in March 2016, both major parties had contested presidential primaries. By the time primary voting concluded last month, both parties’ presidential candidates were known. READ MORE.

THE CENSUS BUREAU IS LOOKING FOR HELP

Based on continuing assessments, guidance from federal, state and local health authorities, the U.S. Census Bureau is planning to reactivate 2020 Census field operations, pending statutory relief from Congress, after June 1. The Census Bureau is taking this step to help protect the health and safety of the American public, Census Bureau employees, and everyone who will go through the hiring process for temporary census taker positions. The United States Postal Service employs over 500,000 people and is the #1 employer of veterans. Donald Trump has rejected a bill that would save it from running out of money in September.
