Ohio’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic includes the elimination of in-person polling place voting for the 2020 primary election. The General Assembly has set April 28th as the final day of the 2020 Primary Election. Voting by mail has been extended through April 28, 2020. You must submit an absentee vote-by-mail application by 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 25, 2020 to receive a ballot in the mail. The extension is only for voters who have not yet cast a ballot in the 2020 Primary Election.

The office of the Clermont County Board of Elections is open by appointment only.

AN OHIO FIRM’S NEW MACHINE CAN SANITIZE 80,000 MASKS A DAY
COLUMBUS, Ohio — On March 14, Matt Vaughan, a top executive at Battelle, the Columbus science and technology firm, was working late on a Saturday when he got an email from a colleague. A Battelle engineer, Kevin Hommema, said his wife, a doctor at a Columbus hospital, was worried about a shortage of protective masks in light of the coronavirus pandemic. He said the problem could be addressed using technology Battelle had developed a few years before to disinfect and re-use masks exactly for that reason, but never scaled up for use. Read more.
SOCIAL SECURITY RECIPIENTS WON’T HAVE TO FILE TAX FORMS TO GET STIMULUS CHECKS
After getting pushback from members of Congress over a requirement that Social Security recipients file abbreviated tax returns to receive their coronavirus stimulus payments from the federal government, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin dropped the requirement on Wednesday evening. Read more.
CCPH: TESTING CAPACITY NOT THERE YET; THREE BUSINESSES ISSUED ‘CEASE AND DESIST’ ORDERS
The Clermont County Commissioners met on April 1 to discuss COVID-19, as well as to issue reassurances to the citizens of the county. In a show of the times, Ed Humphrey teleconferenced into the meeting, and viewers watched the meeting via Facebook Live.

In the event of an infectious disease outbreak, local officials may require the public to take measures to limit and control the spread of the disease. The government has the right to enforce federal and state laws related to public health if people within the country get sick with highly contagious diseases that have the potential to develop into outbreaks or pandemics.
