If you did not attend the Quin-T Democrat Club fall dinner in Bethel last Thursday, you missed a wonderful evening. The highlights were comments from Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge John P. O’Donnell, a candidate for Ohio Supreme Court in 2020, and Ohio House Minority Leader Emilia Sykes, State Representative for the 34th District in Akron. Running for office and serving in a public office take a lot of time and hard work. Both Judge O’Donnell and Leader Sykes have met that challenge. They should be role models for us all.
The filing deadline for people wishing to run for any office in 2020 is 4:00 p.m. on December 18, just over two months away. We still need people to run for the Ohio House of Representative seats representing the 65th and 66th Districts. We need people to run for County Treasurer, County Recorder, Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas, County Engineer, Coroner, and Prosecuting Attorney. Change will not happen until we change who holds these offices. Additionally, it is a terrible statement about our County and demeans the importance of our elections if voters see only Republicans on the ballot for these offices in November of 2020. I encourage everyone reading this to follow the lead of people like Emilia Sykes and John P. O’Donnell. Step up! Run for office!
